The Delaware Farm Bureau’s Promotion and Education Committee (P&E) hosted a luncheon with Delaware legislators on National Ag Day, Tuesday, March 18. DEFB members, along with 4-H and FFA students, had the opportunity to engage with legislators and their staff over a meal.

This luncheon provides a platform for legislators to connect with agriculturalists and hear firsthand about their concerns. The idea originated during the COVID-19 pandemic when P&E members sought creative ways to share agricultural facts with lawmakers. What began in 2022 as a simple bagged lunch and an agriculture fact card has since evolved into a full in-person event, now in its third year.

Holding this gathering on National Ag Day underscores the significance of Delaware’s number one industry, agriculture. On the same day, legislators passed a bill recognizing March 16–22, 2025, as “National Agriculture Week” in Delaware, reinforcing their commitment to acknowledging the industry’s impact.

“The DEFB P&E Committee looks forward to National Ag Day as an opportunity to engage with legislators about the importance of agriculture, Delaware’s leading industry,” said Mikayla Paul, Assistant Executive Director and Marketing Coordinator. “Our Legislative Luncheon highlights dishes that showcase the diversity of Delaware’s agriculture.”

Delaware FFA Vice President Kailyn Pippen reflected on the experience saying, “We had the privilege of speaking with legislators while serving them lunch on National Ag Day. It was a great opportunity to build connections and promote the agriculture industry.”
