Time: 40 minutes
Big Idea: Kids will explore the life cycle of a farm animal and learn about the products we get from that animal.
What You’ll Need:
- Printed or hand-drawn Farm Animal Flashcards (choose one animal: cow, pig, sheep, goat, chicken, or horse)
- Paper and crayons or markers
- Homemade Life Cycle Chart (can be drawn using circles or arrows)
- A few food items or pictures related to the chosen animal (e.g., milk, cheese, eggs, wool sweater
Part 1: Choose Your Animal
Pick one farm animal to focus on (for example, a chicken). Show your child a picture of the animal and discuss what they already know about it.
Part 2: Create the Life Cycle
Help your child draw the life cycle of the chosen animal on paper. Include the stages:
- Baby
- Young animal
- Adult
Part 3: What Does This Animal Give Us?
Talk about the products we get from the animal. Let your child draw or glue pictures of:
- Food (such as eggs, milk, meat)
- By-products (such as wool or leather)
Optional: Show real examples from your home, like a wool sweater or carton of eggs.
Discussion Topics: Have your child explain the life cycle and products in their own words. Ask questions like:
- “What does a baby cow look like?”
- “What does a cow eat to grow?”
- What do we get from cows?
