Looking back on my time with the Delaware State Fair Jr. Board, I realized that the fair is far more than the rides and yummy food. It has been a journey of growth, responsibility, and creating memories that I’ll carry with me for years to come. You truly don’t realize how much work goes into the fair until you are behind the scenes doing the work! It takes countless volunteers, staff members, and dedicated individuals to make the Delaware State Fair a success each year, and I am grateful that I had the opportunity to be a part of it. Some of my favorite jobs I have worked during my time include livestock shows, the ice cream making contest, and concerts. The 10 days can become long and hot, but nothing will ever top my experience of being a Junior Board member. Being an outgoing member, I truly can’t imagine the person I would be without all the amazing experiences through these past two years. But the truth is, just a few years ago, I would’ve never imagined being on the Junior Board. Without the encouragement of my support group, I would not be here today.
Growing up, I was taught how important agriculture is. Joining 4-H at a very early age, I have learned to love agriculture. Through my experiences, I have shown market goats, dairy cows, and market hogs. Showing these animals at the fair pushed me to get out of my comfort zone and apply for Junior Board. With the help of my grandfather, 4-H leader, and FFA advisors, I have grown my love for agriculture, the fair, and leadership. To reflect, I would encourage any youth to apply for the Delaware State Fair Junior Board. It not only shapes you into a better person but also strengthens your leadership skills and sense of responsibility. I will always be thankful for the friendships, memories, and opportunities this experience has given me, and I know the lessons I have learned will stay with me for many years to come.
