The Delaware Farm Bureau (DEFB) Foundation is excited to host its 5th annual Lace Up for Ag Literacy 5K Run/Walkon Saturday, October 18, 2025. This family-friendly event raises funds to support the Foundation’s mission of building awareness about Delaware’s agricultural industry and promoting the benefits of fresh, local food.

Whether it’s planting seeds, making ice cream, or engaging in other hands-on lessons, children love learning how their food makes its way to their plates. The DEFB Foundation is dedicated to building awareness, understanding, and positive public perception of Delaware’s farm operations.

“Agriculture touches every part of our lives, and this event is a fun, meaningful way to connect our community with the farms that feed us,” said DEFB Foundation Chair Bill Powers. “By supporting ag literacy, we’re investing in the future of ag by ensuring that the next generation understands and values the importance of local farming.”

The Foundation launched the 5K Run/Walk to support its fundraising efforts, and the event continues to highlight local agriculture as participants make their way through a scenic dairy farm.

This year’s race will take place at Hopkins Farm Creamery, located at 18186 Dairy Farm Rd. in Lewes, on October 18. Registration opens at 8:00 a.m., with the race beginning at 9:00 a.m.

Hopkins Farm Creamery is a family-friendly, fourth-generation farm at the intersection of Dairy Farm Road and Route 9 in Lewes. The off-road course starts and finishes at the creamery and takes runners and walkers through pastures, past hay bales and barns, across a covered bridge, and around a beautiful pond.

New this year, the race coincides with the first-ever Hopkins Farm Fall Festival, held every weekend in October from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to stay after the race to enjoy breakfast, fall-themed activities, apple cider, and more.

Registration for the Lace Up for Ag Literacy 5K Run/Walk event is $30 per person, through Oct. 10. Registration increases to $35 starting Oct. 11 through the day of the event. Checks can be made payable to “DE Farm Bureau Foundation” and mailed to the DE Farm Bureau Foundation at 3457 S. DuPont Hwy, Camden, DE, 19934.
