Big Idea: Take a Delaware classic and explore it with a new set of flavors! Understand the importance of lima beans to Delaware agriculture.
What You’ll Need:
• 3 cups of lima beans (fresh or dried)
• 1 tablespoon of salt
• 2 1/3 cups of brown sugar
• 4 tablespoons of melted butter
• Saucepan
• 9×13 baking pan
Part 1: Making Candied Lima Beans
- Dry Beans Only: Cover beans with cold water and soak for 4 hours (in fridge).
- Drain and put in saucepan. Fill with cold water and add salt.
- Cook over medium heat until tender (about 1 hour).
- Drain beans. Add to mixing bowl with brown sugar and butter. Stir mixture.
- Bake in 9×13 pan at 325 degrees Fahrenheit (about 1 hour).
Part 2: Enjoy a Sweet Treat - Allow the tray to cool, then begin scooping the beans.
