Liz Harrison, New Castle County Young Farmers and Ranchers Chair, visited students at Warner Elementary School in Wilmington during their Junior Achievement Exploration Fair. She shared her experiences as a farm insurance agent and encouraged students to explore careers in agriculture.

Throughout the fair, students rotated through stations where volunteers discussed their businesses and professions. Harrison joined volunteers from a wide range of industries across Delaware, helping expand students’ understanding of future career opportunities.

Students asked Harrison many questions about farming and agriculture. She explained that farmers work long, varied hours, and as their insurance agent, she also needs to be available whenever they need her. Students asked how to identify “real” food. Harrison described what whole foods are and where they can be found, adding that farmers markets and the produce, meat, and dairy sections of grocery stores offer the best ways to support local farmers while making healthy choices.

Harrison also enjoyed hearing from students about their interests and future ambitions.

“I always ask kids what they want to change about their world when they grow up and the responses blew me away,” she said. “Our youth have big aspirations for their future!” For more information on the Junior Achievement of Delaware, visit https://delaware.ja.org/.
