Obituaries
The Delaware Farm Bureau (DEFB) is pleased to offer a new benefit to active members: a complimentary obituary in DEFB News. This initiative provides a special opportunity to honor and celebrate the life accomplishments of our members, offering a dedicated space for recognition. Please see guidelines below.
Obituary Submission Guidelines
1. Submission Process
- Online Submission: Obituaries can be submitted through our website’s dedicated obituary submission form at the discretion of the deceased’s family.
- Email Submission: Submissions can be emailed to Jaiden Cain at Jaiden.cain@defb.org.
- In-Person/Mail Submission: Obituaries may be dropped off in person or mailed to our office at 3457 S Dupont Hwy, Camden, DE 19934.
2. Submission Deadline
- Bimonthly Publication: DEFB News is published bimonthly, with the following submission deadlines:
- Jan/Feb Issue: December 15
- Mar/Apr Issue: February 15
- May/Jun Issue: April 15
- Jul/Aug Issue: June 15
- Sept/Oct Issue: August 15
- Nov/Dec Issue: October 15
3. Required Information
- Full name of the deceased, including any nicknames.
- Date of birth and date of death.
- Names of immediate family members (spouse, children, parents, etc.).
- A brief biography, highlighting major life accomplishments, career highlights, hobbies, community involvement, and agricultural achievements.
- A high-resolution photo (optional).
4. Length and Format
- Obituaries are limited to 300 words.
- Please submit text in a Word document or plain text format.
- The newspaper reserves the right to edit submissions for length, clarity, and adherence to our style guide.
5. Fees and Payment
- The Delaware Farm Bureau provides one obituary for each deceased active member at no charge.
6. Photo Guidelines
- Photos should be high-resolution (300 dpi) and in JPG or PNG format.
- Please ensure the photo is a clear, recent portrait of the deceased.
7. Revisions and Cancellations
- Revisions to submitted obituaries must be made by the submission deadline.
- Cancellations will be accepted up to 10 days after the submission deadline.
- Cancellations or refunds may not be possible after 10 days past the deadline.
8. Placement
- Placement within the newspaper is determined by available space.
9. Ethical Standards
- Obituaries should be written respectfully and truthfully. Submissions containing offensive language, false information, or defamatory content will not be accepted.
- The newspaper reserves the right to reject or modify any submission that does not meet our editorial standards.
