Big Idea: Learn how sheep are raised and how their wool is used to make clothing.
What You’ll Need:
· Piece of wool yarn (or cotton ball as substitute)
· Paper and crayons/markers
Part 1. Look and Learn Show the yarn or cotton ball. Ask:
· How does it feel?
· What do you think sheep’s wool is used for?
Part 2. Wool Talk Explain:
· Farmers raise sheep for wool, meat, and milk.
· Sheep get a haircut called shearing in the spring.
· Wool is cleaned, spun, and made into sweaters, socks, and blankets. Activity: Draw a sheep in a green pasture.
Part 3. Touch & Feel Let your child touch the yarn/cotton ball. Ask: Would you want to wear clothes made from this?
