The Delaware Farm Bureau’s Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Committee will host its 15th Annual Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 7, at B&B Farms in Townsend, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Attendees can look forward to a family-friendly day filled with fun activities, delicious food, and fresh local strawberries.
“The strawberry festival has been a staple activity for the committee for a long time,” State YF&R Chair Will Powers said. “It’s a great opportunity for us to raise money and make connections with our community at the same time.”
The festival includes a Kid’s Zone, featuring games, tractor rides, face painting, a petting zoo, and more. Wristbands for unlimited access to the Kid’s Zone are $8, with a $2 discount offered in exchange for a non-perishable food donation.
Attendees can enjoy fresh food prepared by YF&R members, including fresh strawberry shortcake. U-pick strawberry fields will be open, and pre-picked strawberries will also be available for purchase.
All proceeds benefit the YF&R Committee’s scholarship fund and support future events and leadership opportunities. Earlier this year, the committee sent 13 members to the National FUSION Conference hosted by the American Farm Bureau Federation in Denver, Colorado, thanks in part to funds raised at last year’s festival.
The group hopes to continue growing opportunities for younger farmers in Delaware to preserve the industry for generations to come.
“Being able to use the money we raise to send our members to national leadership events really sets us apart from other states,” said Powers. “They return with national connections and fresh ideas to help strengthen Delaware agriculture.”
B&B Farms is located at 1019 Caldwell Corner Rd, Townsend, DE 19734. For more information on upcoming events and membership, visit www.defb.org.
